something's cooking.. something's fishy!

Kite Fishing

NUS + Andrea -- Kite Fishing.

We were picked up in school at around 10+ in the morning and headed for Whatipu beach. Jing and her friends drove there to watch us kite fish. The guy wanted to charge them 1/2 price just to come with us and watch us fish. Meanie. But he was quite nice to those who made payments though. haha... The drive there was super long and winding. Having motion sickness is highly possible. Once you get out of auckland city, the rest of auckland is very much in the wilderness.

The guy (Neil i think) then took us on a hike! He asked us if we all could take a 10 mins hike. Haiyah 10 mins.. Whats the problem! But then.... 10 mins hiking in NZ is unlike 10 mins walking on the streets in Singapore k. So tiring. Auckland is plagued with slopes. In the city, in the wilderness. SAME. After definately more than 10 mins, we finally got to the top of the hill to take in some magnificent views

After that, we got down to the beach. But it only another very long walk, with all the fishing rods and what not.. enduring some SUPER HOT BLACK SAND before we got to the beach. And because of the wind direction.. we walk walk walk to the far end of the beach so that our kite and fly. Tired out before any fish was harmed.

Pretty beach. See the big rock on the right? Neil says every year there is an average of 2 to 3 deaths there. People fish there and when a big wave comes, it sweeps you in and thats the end. Having alot of great white sharks roaming these waters doesnt help. Heard this is the best place to get a great white shark or let a great white shark get you.Rationale of Kite fishing:

You attach your fishing line onto the kite and fly the kite high high up int the sky. The kite will bring your fishing line much deeper into the waters than a traditional fishing rod. And therefore, there is higher chances you'll get a big fish! This is called.... 放长线, 钓大鱼! haha. With the kite you can go 8x further than a regular fishing rod.

Teaching us how to set up the kite...
Guys doing the dirty job. Prepare the bait. Yucks... i'm not going to pity them if the juice from the squid goes into their mouth.

Girls just have to look pretty

The NUS kids

Andrea. From HK.

Because there wasnt much wind that day, we tried to increase our chances by using the regular fishing rods. If not we can try fishing for a seagull instead

Not much luck.. Ian caught a small fish and used it as a live bait. But it died shortly. Haha.. thats all for his prized fish. Andrea caught a big fish but it escaped when it was near the shore! Damn. After that we kept trying to fish that stupid fish back. Haha.. We figured it likes squid and it didnt get to eat the bait just now. Maybe it is still hungry and will strike again! But seems more like the fish went to inform the entire school of fish about some evil humans trying to catch them. Didnt catch any more fish after that.

In my boredom, i decided to practise writing some chinese. For the benefit of my mum, it reads "mei you yu" = dont have fish! haha.. But since my mum so smart can read chim words like "nian gao" i'm sure this is nothing to you right? :)

Pro at work. Bet you didnt know i'm from the NUS FISHING TEAM.

The fishing line attached to the first kite snapped. The expert says it is highly probable that it was bitten off by sharks. Woooo SHARKS. I'm sure there were a few fishes on that first fishing line. There are like 5 baits on each line so each haul can bring back a few fishes. I'm sure there were fishes on the line. I felt the tug!

And so.. We flew another kite out. Since we had no luck with the regular fishing rods, we were pinning all our hopes on the kite one. Didnt want to go home until we catch a fish! Was super gan cheong when it was 6 plus because we only had an hour to catch our shark or whale or anything that is HUGE. hahah.. kidding. I'm support the conservation of sharks and whales alright.....

I told you. NUS FISHING TEAM! Caught with my bare hands! LI HAI BA! Bad Shot. Look fat. :(

when we roped in the kite at the end of the day we had 3 fishes! yeahhh.. super excited. Just had to take a picture. The fish i was holding had spikes at the fins. so i had to hold it like a hamster... SO STRESSED. i was so afraid it will jump! I could feel it breathing and moving abit!!Was screaming screaming when we took the picture and force a smile at the same time. Multi-tasking. hahaha.

From left to right: Snapper, Carrot fish, dont know what rare fish. The picture doesnt look impressive but it is pretty big! :)

Satisfied us. *nb: the sand was super difficult to walk on. Too soft. We were sinking every step we take.

Apart from this fishes, we managed to catch a stunning sunset.

Check out the pinkish hue. Gorgeous.

BAck in the apartment, Jing went on to murder the fish further. Looking murderous. My life is in great danger. I just live a thin thin wall away!

More dirty work for Ian. But he looked quite happy cleaning the fish.

Next day... I was supposed to cook dinner and we decided to cook the fish. Problem is... i am clueless on frying a fish! So jing 拔刀相救!

Ian decided to work on the presentation and this was it. Haha.. The fish was fresh and yummy. Great job weijing!

I did the other dishes! Vege for a balanced diet.Chicken and mushroom in cream sauce!Yeahhhh... sumptuous meal for all...

I know my title is very misleading and gossipy looking. But that is literally what happened isnt it? haha... I thought it was one good title! :)
