Day 6/7 -- Christchurch

Left Hokitika for Christchurch. Essentially the last day of activities since we have to catch a morning plane the next morning.

Stumpers. Our accomodation at Hokitika. They own a bar downstairs and we live upstairs.

Day 6 is horse riding day. So looking forward!

Drive drive drive.

Wanted to stop here to eat the bread we bought . Thought we could just get some hot drinks from the cafe and eat our own bread in there but they wont allow that. Not sure whether the lady was trying to be kind or sacarstic, she said we could sit at the bench outside the cafe. Hmmmm.. Anyway we just got some hot chocolates and ate in the car. Too cold to be eating outside.

When we got to the horse riding place, Blue came out to welcome us. Blue is the doggie u see there. Very friendly, keep pouncing on us and getting us to play with it.

We got allocated to our horses of the day. And we're also named after the horses for the day. Haha..

cant really take pictures while on the horse.. could only take when everybody stops. We rode pass fields, streams, hills and sheeps. Blue came with us, he kept trying to herd the sheeps. Haha... kpo. The sheeps are reared by other people.

The horses took us to some awesome view.

Thats me and my horse Arrow! Not too bad to be called Arrow all day long.. Abhay's horse is called Lulu. Haha..

A better view of Arrow. Let me give a brief introduction of Arrow

  • Arrow is a 14 year old male

  • Used to be a racing horse! Actually all the horses are retired race horses. Retired race horses will be killed and made into pet food because they cant race anymore and there isnt much value to them. So poor thing! I'm glad he is saved.

  • Suspected to have weak knees/legs. Almost fell a couple of times, scary.

  • Very disobedient! Always go to whichever direction he wants to go and ignores the rider half the time. The owner said he is actually a nice tempered horse. But quite stubborn sometimes. Arrow is like a 5 year old with a new teacher, always trying to see how much he can get away with. Well, I think that is a very good analogy.

After riding for some time, we stopped for tea. Had coffee and some homemade scones. The scones were good. I'm beginning to appreciate scones now. Used to dislike them.

Where we had our picnic

Very windy....Very cold!Back at the farm. Introducing Sky. The couple running the farm have 3 dogs and they ALL LOOK THE SAME. No wonder i didnt realise there were 3 days around. Forgot the name of the 3rd dog already. The owner said Blue and Sky are always running all over the place, so he is always looking for Blue Sky.Our 2 hours horse riding trip seem so short.. I enjoyed it! I want to learn to ride on a galloping horse!

Next day... I woke up early. Gave up on trying to sleep actually...Cant sleep. The others were still asleep.. so i decided to go out and take a walk.

Sadly, it was raining! And no shops are opened. But the place is pretty in its own way, in the rain.

Stayed in the backpackers to read gossip magazines instead. Saw this quote written on some wall at the backpackers. I thought it was quite interesting. Thats the end of my mid sem trip! I thought the trip was great. :)
